Manufacturing Company Leaves ‘Frustrating’ EWA Provider for Tapcheck
A home health franchise wanted to bring the best possible on-demand pay benefits to their employees. But a brief experience with a competitor went awry, and their employees demanded a return to Tapcheck.

“Using Tapcheck has been painless for my employees, the way it should be. I’m just tickled pink with how this whole process has gone, from implementation through to today.”

Trouble With a Previous EWA Provider
Earned wage access programs can be game-changing benefits for employers when everything works properly.
No-cost, high-impact. Downstream boosts in employee engagement, retention, and performance. But to get these boosts, the solution needs to work properly, not taking up time and causing frustration. For the team at Tank Holding, they weren’t seeing the impact they had hoped for.

“Employees couldn’t get access to their funds when they needed,” said Dave Hall, payroll manager for Tank Holding. “We had an issue where [our old EWA provider] didn’t record a holiday properly, so people couldn’t access their funds.” This hiccup in payroll led to confusion and frustration amongst Tank Holding employees, who held their employer responsible for the error even though the Tank team had no control.
“It created animosity between our employees and our Payroll and HR leadership. We would field their questions and have to pass them off to [the EWA provider] because we didn’t have control. It really eroded the trust with our staff.”
Confused employees would reach out to the EWA provider with issues, only to be told something that was inconsistent with what Dave and team were seeing on their end. So he’d get involved, spending his time running interference on a benefit that he hoped would be more hands-off than headache-inducing.
“It created a go-between where employees had to... fight for their funds.”
Frustrated with errors and an inability to solve their employees’ issues with the EWA provider, Dave and his team went exploring for a solution that offered better support across the board.
Finding a Better Partner

Tapcheck stands out for better support, ease of use
When a benefit like earned wage access is working as intended, it’s operating quietly in the background. Ideally, it’s providing employees with a service they can rely on without burdening the back office teams with extra work. For the Tank team, the switch to Tapcheck has meant a reprieve from payroll errors and staff complaints.
“I hear very little from employees, so that right there is huge for me,” Dave said. “The customer service I get from [the Tapcheck team] has been great and very responsive to the few questions that I’ve had.”
As Dave and the team were preparing to leave for Tapcheck, they were warned by their previous EWA provider that the reconciliation process with Tapcheck would be manual, cumbersome, and time-consuming. It was enough to give Dave pause. But the reality?
“I spend maybe 10 minutes per week on reconciling the account. And I actually don’t mind those 10 minutes, because it’s so easy and ensures the process is working.”
On the employee side, registration quickly picked up speed and approached 15% registration less than six weeks after implementation. Tapcheck has already funded more than $230,000 earned wages to Tank employees, demonstrating that this benefit can provide impact within a few short weeks.
“Access to their funds right after a shift is huge for some people,” Dave explained. “We had storms that came through Florida and North Carolina where we have plants. In some cases, having access to $200 right away meant some impacted employees could get a hotel room for the night or something like that. I don’t think our competitors are offering this.”
Since launching Tapcheck, the Tank Holding team can now trust that their employees are receiving the quality benefit they need, giving Dave and others a chance to refocus their efforts on other parts of the business. His advice to other companies looking to make a choice on an EWA provider?
“Talk to other companies in your industry using [earned wage access]. Reach out, ask questions about which providers they would and wouldn’t recommend, because that can speak volumes. Do your homework to figure out which one is best for you.”
