How a SNF is Winning the Talent War with On-Demand Pay
A leading healthcare company came to Tapcheck looking for an on-demand pay solution. What they found was a benefit their employees used and seriously helped retention.
"Just do it. At the end of the day, there are a lot of people that could use Tapcheck, even people making six figures. And that tells me that there's an immediate need for the benefit."

Handling the Hiring Battle with On-Demand Pay
The skilled nursing industry presents unique workforce challenges, particularly when competing with staffing agencies that offer attractive immediate payment options. The team at Vered Healthcare explained that they consistently competed against staffing agencies to hire personnel, and the agencies could offer workers pay flexibility. This made it difficult for traditional healthcare providers to entice agency workers to become full-time employees.
Vered Healthcare implemented Tapcheck's on-demand pay solution to address these workforce challenges. "Having the ability to be able to provide that same type of daily pay, obviously not through a paycheck, but through a different portal, allowed us to convert some of these folks over to be hired on full time with us," said Natalia Claytor, Chief People Officer with Vered Healthcare.
The organization strategically incorporated same-day pay into their recruitment strategy. They began advertising "same day pay" in their Indeed job postings, which helped attract workers who were accustomed to the immediate payment model of staffing agencies. This approach proved particularly effective in their goal of eliminating agency competition in some specific areas within Florida.
Supporting Their Employees as They Need
Recognizing that many of their employees earn a modest wage, Vered Healthcare saw Tapcheck as a critical financial lifeline. The company's leadership understood the importance of providing financial flexibility, especially during challenging times. "We're in a market where a lot of our employees might not make the most money, so providing an option for them to be able to pull some funds when they have an emergency has been impactful," said Claytor.
Unfortunately, an emergency did arise. Vered staff had the ability to withdraw from Tapcheck for emergencies in the aftermath of two hurricanes in Florida. Some families needed to grab supplies or to replace items that had been destroyed. Instant access to funds was critical, and workers were able to get their money without having to wait for payroll.
Creating Payroll Flexibility and Boosting Retention
Tapcheck also offers a feature called disbursements, which allows the company to send an employee money on the stop. This provided an efficient solution for payroll complications.
"Payroll is human, right? There's bound to be human error,” explained Claytor. “The last thing you want is for somebody to miss a hundred-dollar bonus and be upset."
Tapcheck offered a "quick fix" to such situations, allowing immediate resolution of payroll discrepancies.
Perhaps most significantly, the on-demand pay feature became a retention tool. The Vered Healthcare team observed that once employees become accustomed to same-day pay, they were less likely to move to a competitor that might not offer the benefit. The peace of mind and and security on-demand pay provided was important enough to keep some workers from changing jobs.
The initial integration was not without challenges. As the Tapcheck team built the integration, the Vered team noted not everything was working right away and were worried about specific components. But throughout the process they were assisted by their account manager, who was on-hand to answer anything he could or track down answers that required more help.
When asked what advice they would give to other skilled nursing facilities considering earned wage access, Claytor was clear: "just do it." She emphasized that in the current economic climate, there's a real need for this benefit across various income levels.
Tapcheck has helped Vered Healthcare's improve their approach to employee compensation, providing a strategic tool for recruitment, retention, and employee support. The solution doesn't hurt their bottom line while still offering significant value to their workforce.
